What is an ATS and why should our curriculum be adapted to this system?

During the last decade, large companies, mainly those located in a market as competitive as the United States, where recruitment processes are massive, have relied on Artificial Intelligence as an ally of Human Resources. However, demand has increased since the pandemic and the ATS system has become known in Latin America. An ATS (Applicant Tracking System) or candidate tracking system is a computer application that facilitates the management of the recruiter and the applicant in the hiring processes. This system is the main recipient of the resumes, which are then automatically filtered based on job requirements, keywords, skills, experience, education, etc., thus isolating all those that do not meet the requirements or those that have the wrong formats, which they use photos, graphics, and designs, such as those in the Canva tool.

What should we do for the system to include our CV in a recruitment and hiring process?

It is important to know that an ATS discards CVs with graphics, logos, photos and tables, therefore, this information should be avoided and focus on keywords, metrics achieved in the position, goals achieved, statistics, etc. The formats jpg, png, scanned pdf, etc. are rejected by the system, therefore, they must be attached in pdf or word (.doc) format. We share a CV format for ATS so you can include your work and educational information. In addition to this, it is recommended to review your CV in an ATS Checker before uploading it to the job portal of the company to which you are applying.

What do you think about this new system?
